Neurodiverse Clients
“Neurodiversity may be the birthplace of some of humanity’s greatest minds.”
– Harvey Blume
At CABC, we work collaboratively with neurodivergent clients, a term used to describe different ways in which people’s brains work, encompassing conditions like autism, ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia. Neurodivergent people have different strengths and challenges than those living without those brain differences, often referred to as neurotypical, and we feel it’s important to create and provide an “owner’s manual” for each individual’s brain. We do this through neurodivergent-affirming care that, in addition to evaluation services, includes psychoeducation, identity affirmation, executive functioning support, sensory safety training, and the recognition of co-occurring mental health conditions to name a few.
Being identified as autistic can elicit a wide range of emotions and reactions from feeling scared and overwhelmed to feeling a sense of relief and increased self-awareness and acceptance. We feel strongly in supporting neurodiverse clients to gain a deep understanding of their unique strengths and exceptional skills as they explore ways to maximize them in their daily lives.
