Social Skills Training
“I consider social skills a bit like learning a language. I’ve been practicing it for so long over so many years, I’ve almost lost my accent.”
– Daniel Tammet
Social skills training (SST) is a therapeutic approach aimed at improving an individual’s ability to interact effectively with others. It focuses on teaching and enhancing skills necessary for successful social interactions and building meaningful relationships. Social skills may focus on such areas as communication, assertiveness, empathy, conversational skills, social cues, or conflict resolution. Skills can be taught through direct instruction, modeling appropriate behavior, conversations, role-playing, and problem-solving. Overall, social skills training aims to improve social competence and confidence, enabling individuals to navigate social situations more effectively and build stronger, more satisfying relationships.
