What is CBT?
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a method of treating clients with mental health disorders that is based on established scientific principles and strong empirical research. The psychologist works collaboratively with the client to assist him/her in challenging his/her thoughts and changing his/her behavior in a manner consistent with improved mental health. It is a present-focused, active treatment that is designed to teach the client skills and techniques that he/she can use during and after active treatment to maintain improved mental health and a higher level of overall functioning. This treatment is delivered within a safe environment and in the context of a compassionate, empathetic relationship with the psychologist.
