What is CBT?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a method of treating clients with mental health disorders that is based on established scientific principles and strong empirical research. The psychologist works collaboratively with the client to assist them in challenging their thoughts and changing their behavior in a manner consistent with improved mental health. It is a present-focused, active treatment that is designed to teach the client skills and techniques that they can use during and after active treatment to maintain improved mental health and a higher level of overall functioning. This treatment is delivered within a safe environment and in the context of a compassionate, empathetic relationship with the psychologist.
